I followed your link from Hammer's blog. That spider web picture is awesome.
And as someone who lives in Oz, where the spiders are pretty famous, I have to ask the question: if the web's that big, how big's the spider?

Of course I had "step into my lair" zipping through my head as I saw this.
I looked at the large view to get an idea and I know NOTHING but I remember seeing, while trying to identify one of my spiders, funnel or tunnel spiders. Your web has an opening. I don't know if its for babies or for prey. Try bugguide.net, they have helped me a bunch!
I sure hope it was the web that is the size of a soccer ball and not the spider!
I love spider webs, too, but this guy looks as though he was smokin' crack while spinning...
